Since completing her service as a chapter development consultant in 2018, Mikayla Rowe, Oregon, has continued to volunteer for Tri Delta as a recruitment specialist in Region 1, BodyImage3D facilitator and AAUW Start Smart salary negotiation workshop facilitator. Outside of giving back to Tri Delta, Mikayla earned her master’s degree in elementary education and now works as a fifth-grade teacher in Fairfax, Virginia. Here’s what she had to share about her volunteer experience:
How did you first hear about volunteering for Tri Delta?
As a consultant, I had really positive experiences with some other Tri Delta volunteers who encouraged me to volunteer after graduate school.
What do you get most out of volunteering?
I really enjoy working with college women. As a collegian myself, I had many positive influences who made an impact on the woman and professional I am today. I hope to be another person our collegiate women can turn to for support. I really enjoy facilitating so I also get a lot of joy out of opportunities to facilitate.
What has been the most rewarding experience?
The most rewarding experiences have been times I’ve facilitated at Collegiate Leadership Conference (CLC). I really love seeing the growth women achieve over the weekend and how excited they are to start doing the work for their chapters. CLC also offers informal opportunities to get to know other members which I find fun.
What skills has your volunteer role helped you develop?
Confidence to stand in front of a group of people, learning to meet people where they are, and advocating for myself and others.
