Each month, Tri Delta publishes In Memoriam, highlighting the lives of some of our Distinguished Deltas and longtime volunteers and sharing a full list of sisters who have recently passed away. Below is the In Memoriam for March 2024.
Kate Kaufling, Kentucky
With heavy hearts, Tri Delta shares the loss of collegian Kate Kaufling, Kentucky, on March 31, 2024, after a short but valiant battle with osteosarcoma. Kate lived a life marked by compassion, kindness and unwavering optimism. Growing up alongside her twin (and chapter) sister, Abbey, together they approached each day with a contagious enthusiasm, spreading joy and laughter wherever they went. A 4.0 nursing student, Kate’s academic journey was marked by a passion for learning and a commitment to helping others.
Her chapter wrote of her, “Kate was an incredibly bright light in our chapter, one whose presence will be felt for years to come. She was loving, genuine and passionate—a Tri Delta in every way.” Kate was also a member of the University of Kentucky Dance Team.
Suzy Brown Burger, Illinois
Tri Delta was saddened to hear of the passing of longtime Tri Delta volunteer, Life Loyal member and Golden Circle member Suzy Brown Burger, Illinois. Suzy served the Fraternity in many ways across the decades and was a true example of lifetime membership. She held the role of Associate Director from 1978 to 1980, and led alumnae chapters as their president from Louisville, Kentucky, in the 1970s to Phoenix, Arizona, in the 2000s. One Phoenix Valley Alumnae Chapter member wrote, “Suzy was an amazing light in our chapter.”
Suzy recently reflected on her membership in Tri Delta as part of our Membership & Memories Project. Susie’s advice for young women looking to join Tri Delta was to “take advantage of everything the Fraternity offers, be bold and serve as an officer, and always respect your sisters.” She believed Tri Delta helped her develop leadership skills and make a difference in people’s lives, and she loved spending time with her chapter sisters at their annual reunions.
