Each month, Tri Delta publishes In Memoriam, highlighting the lives of some of our Distinguished Deltas and longtime volunteers and sharing a full list of sisters who have recently passed away. Below is the In Memoriam for April 2024.
Janey Thompson, Wake Forest
Tri Delta is saddened to report the passing of collegian Janey Thompson, Wake Forest, on April 9, 2024, after suffering complications from a blood clot. A sophomore biophysics major, she was also a member of the National Society of Physics Students and Sigma Pi Sigma. Successful in both basketball and softball, she was named 2021’s Female Athlete of the Year at Myers Park High School.
Her chapter sisters wrote of her, “For those who knew Janey, she was a light to everyone around her whether in the classroom, on the basketball court, or in day-to-day life. She brought so much joy and laughter to our lives and was loved dearly.
“As we navigate this tragic loss, please keep Janey’s family, friends and our members in your thoughts and prayers. We will miss you and your sweet smile, Janey, and know that you will forever be with us.”
Tay Wyrick, Central Florida
Tri Delta mourns the loss of Tay Wyrick, Central Florida, who passed peacefully while reading her Bible. She is mourned by her Tri Delta sisters, family, friends and the UCF community where she spent more than two decades known as “Mama Tay” in her role as house director at Beta Lambda Chapter.
Mama Tay’s influence spread beyond her duties as house director. Her nurture of the women in Beta Lambda Chapter knew no bounds, and she lovingly treated each young woman under her care as if they were her own daughters. She will be remembered for her unwavering dedication, kindness and profound impact on the lives she touched.
