Meet Jimi, one of Tri Delta’s incredible traveling house directors! Originally from Ohio, Jimi is mom to an adult daughter and has a love for people and adventure. Prior to her current role, Jimi served as a house director for another Greek organization in Marietta, Ohio, where she discovered her love for the position. Jimi started her career in the trucking industry as a barge coordinator on the Ohio River, gaining valuable experience in customer service and coordination, and in sales for a boutique for many years.
Why Tri Delta?
Longing for a new adventure and living by her motto, “go, do, live,” Jimi embraced Tri Delta’s traveling house director role. She says the position “truly embodies who I am and fulfills my need for adventure.” For the past year, she has called Moscow, Idaho home.
How do you find balance as a traveling house director?
“Weekends are perfect for adventures, and I find peace in the beauty of Idaho. The Idaho chapter is such a well-run house, and everyone does what they are supposed to do, making it easier for me to balance personal appointments, time with friends and the responsibilities of being a ‘house mom.’”
What do you love about being a house director?
“I enjoy the energy I get from the women. This role has brought me joy and purpose, filling the space that might have otherwise felt lonely. The title of ‘house mom’ holds a special place in my heart.”
What does a typical day look like for you?
“You will find me working with cleaners and chefs, ordering items for events or addressing whatever else may arise. During the traditional ‘business day,’ my door is always open, and I welcome interactions and conversations.”
How has being a house director contributed to your growth and development personally and professionally?
“The traveling position has made me more patient and polished off those rough edges of my personality. Adjusting to the needs of each woman, I have learned to step back and take a deep breath, as the women will do the things that need to be done in their own time and in their own way.”
Hidden gems of the position?
“I am grateful for a wonderful place to live, a chef, a great salary and benefits, and most of all, that I can travel and experience various places. Washington State’s chapter is right around the corner, so there’s always someone nearby to offer tips and tricks!”
What advice do you have for people who want to be a house director, full or traveling?
“Just do it. There are so many opportunities for adventure and growth, and it opens so many new doors in so many ways. For traveling house directors, each new house brings a need to adapt and relearn, as every chapter is unique. You must be able to hit the ground running and roll with whatever is happening in this position. Flexibility is key.”
