Give! Donate your time, talent, or other resources to organizations that support, advocate for, and empower the Black community and our Black members. Supporting organizations that provide support and mentorships to the Black community is a great way to honor Black History Month. Consider exploring local organizations in your community or see how you can get involved with national organizations such as:
- The NAACP: America’s largest, and oldest, civil rights organization
- Blackgirlscode: Educational non-profit organization breaking barriers for Black girls in the tech industry
- The National Urban League: Provides economic empowerment and educational opportunities to underserved communities
- National Civil Rights Museum: Sharing the Civil Rights history and stories that changed our nation
NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSIC (NMAAM) | The only museum of its kind dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of Black music in America. The museum’s expertly-curated collections share the story of the American soundtrack by integrating history and interactive technology to bring the musical heroes of the past into the present.
MUSEUM OF FOOD AND DRINK (MOFAD) – MOFAD brings the world of food and drink to life with exhibits you can taste, touch, and smell. Their goal is to be the world’s premier food museum and a global educational resource that inspires generations of curious eaters of all ages and backgrounds.

MAPPING THE NATION’S TABLE: AFRICAN AMERICAN LEGACY FOODWAYS – The Museum of Food and Drink is mapping Black food and drink businesses across the country. Legacy Businesses have been in operation for 50 years or longer and are still serving communities today.
Engage
To honor Black History Month this year, explore (individually or as a group) The Smithsonian’s Natural Museum of African American History and Culture’s “searchable museum”, which is full of history lessons and virtual tours.
- Call to Action: Share your findings and reflections during Chapter meetings, host a coffee or dinner centered around what you learned, or get creative and come up with new ways to discuss what you learned now and throughout the year.

- PBS BLACK HISTORY MONTH LESSON PLANS – Commemorate Black History Month in your chapter with lesson plans and resources that cover topics ranging from civil rights events to discussions about race in current events. While these lessons were created for students, they’re the perfect turnkey resources to implement with your chapter members.
- MUSEUM OF FOOD & DRINK LEGACY QUILT PROJECT – Use one of their free lesson plans to discover that many of their favorite “American” foods are descended from African recipes, ingredients and cooking techniques and have been popularized throughout our country’s history.
