Tri Delta is joining the Greek community in a phone march to urge Senators and Representatives to sign on as supporters of the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act (CHIA). Members are asked to contact their legislators and ask them to co-sponsor CHIA or, if they are already a sponsor, to help push CHIA onto any tax bill moving through Congress this fall. Focusing our phone call efforts on one day highlights our issue with members of Congress and helps them understand the amount of individuals interested in the passage of this important legislation.
Join the march on September 19 by calling your U.S. Representative and both of your U.S. Senators between 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. (Eastern). Instructions for making the call can be downloaded here. To find your Representative, click here. To find your Senators, click here.
Once you have placed your call, please visit www.fraternalcaucus.org to document the call using the online form. The online form will allow the Capital Fraternal Caucus to track the number of contacts made and to keep track of which organizations participated in this fall's phone march.
Summary of the Bill The Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act will allow tax-deductible charitable contributions given to educational foundations (like the national educational foundations for fraternities and sororities) to be used for improvements to housing owned and operated for the benefit of college students. This bill would make it substantially easier for Greeks nationwide to raise the money needed to install critical life-safety improvements in our chapter facilities, expand housing capacity, and otherwise modernize the housing we provide to our student members.
